Trip to the Armpit of Texas

Dave has spring break this week, however Ale will be working most days.  So we decided to take a short trip to Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas.  It's about a 7 hour drive.  We left on Friday and came back the following day.

Calvin was sick so Mr. Bill the Buffalo came along for this trip.

This sign was recently posted as a result of this.

The Rio Grande.  This is normally a popular area for rafting, however, the river is very low due to the ongoing drought in Texas.

Dave standing on the international boundary. No fences, walls, or Border Patrol trucks out here.  Only a shallow river separates Mexico and the United States.

Happy 7th Birthday and the New Nurse

After 28 years of waiting, Dave celebrated his 7th birthday on February 29th.

Ale started her new job as an RN at Methodist Hospital.  She works in a med-surg unit and is still getting used to 12 hours on her feet with only a 30 minute break.

Getting to Know the Surroundings

In early February we had nice weather in the 70s.  We went out to Government Canyon State Natural which is just west of San Antonio.  Its a nice quick escape with miles of trails meandering through the Texas "hill country".

Calvin stowed away in the backpack.

A Visit From Denise

Denise surprised Alex and Bellita with a visit from Mexico.  Ale and Rocio took the kids to the museum in Fort Worth.

Like most kids now, Denise and Alex were mesmerized by anything with a touch screen.  This was in the puzzle area.  Right next to them on a table is an actual, physical puzzle, but they preferred the digital version.

 Searching for dinosaur bones.

Alex spent over an hour playing with the trains, he refused to leave even to eat.

Zandy and Nick brought Denise down to San Antonio where they stayed with us for a night.  Ale took Denise back to Mexico the next day.  We went to the Riverwalk and Hemisphere Park to go up the Tower of the Americas.
