Cumpleanos de Belita #2

La semana pasada tube la oportunidad de tomar unos dias libres para ir a Dallas a celebrar el cumple de Belita. El primero de dos dias que pase alla no la pasamos haciendo tamales de pollo. Despues de que Ana nos conto que hicieron tamales ella y mi mama a todas se nos antojo. Entonces fuimos a Fiesta a comprar todo, como los viejos tiempos. Gaby nos compro tapias a todas, excepto por Sandy por que no le gusta, las cuales estaban vivas. Las mataron justo ahi. Al dia siguiente comensamos el dia llendo a el aquario de Dallas para ninos. Tomamos el tren, y luego caminamos como lo que se sintio como un buen por la alta temperatura. Al  llegar a la casa arreglamos todo para la fiesta.
Como belita casi no me ve, se olvida facilmente de mi nombre. Cuando llegue ella estaba emocionada de jugar con migo. Pero cuando me llamaba para que fuera con ella, solo me veia y decia "hey...hey". OHHH ahora entiedo por que shoun y Gaby : p

Belita se le a dado por querer poner panales a todo mundo. Hace todo el proceso, te dice que te acuestes y te limpia con las tuallitas, y luego te pone el panal.  Cuando encontro los "panales" de Rosy vio que era de su talla y se los probo. Claro despues se los puso al resto de los adultos.

 Era como estar en Disneyland.

 A Belita le encantaron sus regalos. No dejaba de medirselos y ensenarselos el resto de la noche a todos. Literalmente hiba con su bolsa y sacaba cada una de ropa y los mostraba a cada uno de nosotros.

Se paro de el sillon para medise la ropa.

4th of July a la Boliviana

 

Every 4th of July requires the hanging of a flag.  My bathroom window was the only decent place I could find for the mini-flag that Ale had sent me.

 The Charge de Affairs, John Creamer, posing with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Yellowbird Apache dancers at the official 4th of July event which took place at the Ambassador's Residence in La Paz.  The current Bolivian government has a significant "indigenous agenda", so I think the dancers were brought in to show a different and more in-common face of America.  Some of the dancers were actually Navajo and Mormon.  One of the girls had served a mission in Argentina.

 

No official event is complete without a Marine color guard.  Sgt. Loredo, Cpl . Fischetti, Cpl. Gonzales, and Cpl. White of the Marine Security Guard Detachment.

 

 

In the evening, the Embassy held an event at a shopping mall.  The Apache dancers had a presentation and there were kiosks handing out American flags and "I Love USA" bumper stickers.  Outside, there was a concert featuring a pretty decent band playing American rock covers.  To top it off there was a large and dangerous (they were being launched from the middle of the street) fireworks display.  So, a shopping mall, rock music, patriotic propaganda, and a display of firepower - it doesn't get any more American than that.

 

This guy isn't even American but anyone willing to dress up like that in Bolivia under Evo Morales should be granted immediate citizenship. 

Bolivia Update

In Bolivia servers are overloaded and internet is slow pretty much everywhere.  As a result, it has been difficult to upload pictures.  I will try to upload a few here and there, so I apologize in advance for the disorganization in the posts.  But, here are a few:

The city of La Paz, the highest capital in the world (~11,000 feet).

What to do in and around La Paz:

 

Go to a soccer game between Bolivia and Paraguay and watch Bolivia win.

 

 

Learn about God's gift to mankind, the Coca leaf (at least according to the museum).

  

Go to the Witches Market and buy a llama fetus for good luck.

 Visit the town of Coroico in the Yungas region...

 

...and go on the zipline.

 

Or visit the highest coffee plantation in the world.

 

See the pre-Incan ruins of Tiwanaku, located on the Altiplano.
